The Phonemic Alphabet

The Phonemic Alphabet has been inspired by John Maeda’s Laws of Simplicity. The idea of phonetically or phonemically writing words is not new, but the aim was to make an alphabet easily recognisable without needing to learn a whole new set of characters.
The alphabet has 44 letters, one for each phonemic speech sound in English. The alphabet has been adapted to various typefaces, including 'Helvetica' and 'Bell'.
